about E-MA-KI Project
The fairy tales which have been loved by people throughout the world since ancient times, have been created into picture scrolls using traditional Japanese wood-block printing techniques.
Three artists who attract people's attention and have received high reputation, drew the original pictures for the picture scrolls. They selected "The Little Match Girl" for Kojiro Kosugi, "Pinocchio" for Katsura Funakoshi and "Taketori Monogatari (The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter)" for Eiko Horikawa. The pictures have been recreated into picture scrolls with full use of traditional wood-block printing techniques which is a Japanese cultural property that the Japanese are proud of.
This project has received authorization of "Create Production Project" from Tokyo Metropolitan Government that was started with the aim to spread this Japanese traditional technique worldwide. This valuable work shows the new trend of traditional wood-block printing.
Three years have been spent to create these masterpieces, by astonishing techniques and the materials used were carefully selected. Now, we are proud to publish a limited 88 sets.
Please enjoy the graceful tales which were created with sensitive techniques of the artists, the engravers, and the printers.
